Support for aged care residents and families
Get help with food in aged care
Call the Food, Nutrition and Dining Hotline on 1800 844 044 if you have questions, concerns or complaints about your food, nutrition and dining experience in aged care.
Understand your rights
You can find food, nutrition and dining resources for older people accessing care to help you understand your rights and how to raise issues.
The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission is also leading an awareness and preparedness campaign to:
- increase older people’s understanding of aged care provider responsibilities about food, nutrition and dining
- advise on how to raise concerns about food quality.
Support for people considering aged care
It’s important to consider food, nutrition and the dining experience when choosing an aged care home.
Find a provider tool
Use the My Aged Care, Find a provider tool to compare food at different aged care homes. You can check how and where residents’ food is prepared, how much aged care homes spend on food and whether current residents like the food.
Taste the food during a visit
You can also ask to visit the aged care home at a mealtime and taste a meal when you are considering aged care homes.
Dietary guidelines for people aged 65 years and over
We are funding the National Health and Medical Research Council to develop new dietary guidelines and resources for people aged 65 years and over.
These guidelines will support good nutritional intake and reduce the malnutrition risk for older people.
