From 2022-23, the Australian Government has funded Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS) National to ensure interpreting services are available through Primary Health Network (PHN) funded mental health services.
Language services are designed to ensure that people with limited or no English language proficiency can access the services and programs they need, removing a significant barrier faced by CALD Australians when accessing mental health support.
In 2024, the department commissioned Nous Group Pty Ltd to undertake an evaluation of the implementation, appropriateness, effectiveness, and efficiency of the TIS in PHN commissioned mental health services measure.
