Rural Health Stakeholder Roundtable

The Rural Health Stakeholder Roundtable was established in late 2015 by the then Minister for Rural Health, Senator the Hon. Fiona Nash, to promote rural health strategic discussion and to bring together key rural health stakeholders to assist the Government with informing and developing national rural health policy.

Three Roundtable meetings have been held to date:

  • 13 November 2015
  • 6 April 2016
  • 16 November 2016

Issues discussed during these meetings have included:

  • Distribution of the health workforce;
  • The role of Primary Health Networks in prioritising and commissioning services;
  • Remote area health workforce safety;
  • Establishment of the National Rural Health Commissioner;
  • Development of National Rural Generalist Pathways;
  • Formation of the Distribution Working Group; and
  • Broader health system initiatives.
