What is My Health Record?

The My Health Record (previously known as the Personally Controlled Electronic Health Record) was launched on 1 July 2012. A My Health Record is a secure online summary of an individual’s health information.

The My Health Record System Operator is the Secretary of the Department of Health.

The individual controls what goes into their My Health Record, and who is allowed to access it. An individual’s My Health Record allows them and their doctors, hospitals and other healthcare providers to view and share the individual’s health information to provide the best possible care. Review of the My Health Record

On 19 May 2014, the Government released the report from the review of the My Health Record (titled 'Personally Controlled Electronic Health Record Review Report') . The review looked into concerns about progress in implementing the My Health Record system. The findings of the review supports the ongoing operation of the My Health Record system and made several recommendations aimed at making it more functional and usable and able to deliver the expected benefits in a shorter period.

Public Consultation Report on the recommendations of the Review of the My Health Record system

Public consultations were held across Australia between July and September 2014 to obtain views on the best approach to implementing the Review’s recommendations including any issues or risks for implementation, and how these may be overcome.
